El pájaro campana. Hermanos Cruz.

LEYENDA DEL PAJARO CAMPANA
Este pájaro de la región subtropical de México, se denomina así porque su canto se asemeja al tañido de una campana. En el Brasil éste pájaro recibe el nombre de arapongá o ferreiro que significa herrero, y, según se afirma recibe este nombre, dado que imita muy bien el trabajo del herrero en la bigornia; Al principio se oyen los golpes espaciados, claramente, y por fin algunos más rápidos y arrastrados, como el rechinar de la lima sobre el hierro. En el Paraguay, donde también habita se lo conoce con el nombre de guayrá campana, y se afirma que cantó por primera vez, al exhalar su último suspiro Roque González de Santa Cruz, jesuita martirizado por los indios guaraníes, a las órdenes del cacique Ñesu.
La leyenda refiere que en ocasión de estarse levantando una modestísima iglesia, los indios guaraníes destruyeron los muros, pero la campana aún sin badajo, empezó a sonar misteriosamente, y por doquier persiguió a los que habían matado a los misioneros. La campana fue transformada por Tupá en un pajarito blanco, que al elevar su canto parece realmente la voz de una campana...
